A group of
friends, mostly based in the international city
of Geneva, were brought together by an unusual
idea – to found a Virtual Nation. They wanted to
create a homeland for all of those people with
no nation they could call their own; for all
those looking for a nation in which they could
express themselves freely; and, for those
dreaming of a better nation.
Until elections
can be held, expected once we have 30,000
citizens, the masses and the Provisional
Government of the Virtual Nation will
communicate by virtual means. They will meet,
discuss, legislate and govern through our
website and a regular audio programme/podcast,
soon to be available for broadcast on local
radio stations.
Of the 250 people
who have already expressed their virtual
national aspirations, a number have come forward
to nominate themselves as Ministers and have
been accepted - while others have been nominated
by the President and yet to be interviewed for
the post. Many other portfolios remain vacant,
awaiting the emergin g needs of the citizens and
the Nation. Of course some of our proposed
Ministers appear to be overqualified for their
posts, while in other cases we are not sure we
need a Minister, like Defense since we need to
first find out whether our Nation has enemies.
And we have Ministers for many
unconventional portfolios, like the Ministry of
Flowers, currently occupied by the artist and
actor Duraid Laham. He has taken it upon himself
to persuade our citizens of the importance of
flowers and the need to plant as many as
possible to overwhelm the garbage overflowing in
the streets of so many of our neighbouring
countries. A special section and our first audio
programme is dedicated to this very
extraordinary Minister (in the Arabic section of
this website).
